HFLS Special Education Bridge Loans helps low- and moderate-income Jewish families access appropriate special education for their special needs children. The loans provide school tuition while the family awaits payment from the Department of Education, a process that can take many months.
In the Jewish Day School program partnership, HFLS works directly with a number of Orthodox Jewish day schools and special education programs that serve as an intermediary between the parents and HFLS.
Loans of up to $30,000 are provided to pay tuition once a fully-executed stipulation (or a decision) is obtained from the New York City Department of Education. The loans are immediately repayable from the settlement or decision proceeds when such proceeds are received by the borrower’s attorney.
To determine whether your child is a student at a Jewish Day School Partnership school, please contact HFLS Deputy Director Kim Kaplan at 212-687-0188 x207 or firstname.lastname@example.org. Families whose children are not attending a Partnership school may apply for a Special Education Bridge Loan for Individual Families.
