HFLS Scholarship Intern

THE ORGANIZATION: The Hebrew Free Loan Society (HFLS) fosters financial stability and opportunity by providing access to safe and affordable credit in the form of interest-free loans. HFLS loans enable borrowers to attend college, improve their job skills, start a business, or respond to unexpected financial challenges. HFLS is a non-sectarian lender, serving the New York City area since 1892.

The Hebrew Free Loan Society administers three scholarship programs for the UJA-Federation of New York. These programs provide approximately $1 million to students with financial need, primarily in the New York City metropolitan area.

THE POSITION: The Scholarship Intern is a temporary position (May – August) that plays a crucial role in assisting to effectively administer the UJA scholarship programs.

Reporting to the Director of Finance and Administration (DOFA), the Scholarship Intern will be the primary liaison with both students applying for scholarships, and with financial aid office representatives at partnering universities and colleges. Other primary responsibilities include reviewing and assessing student applications, facilitating the printing and distribution of applications to the scholarship committee members, updating student awards/denials, distribution of awards and collecting student data to finalize the annual report.

POSITION DETAILS:

  • Schedule: Monday – Thursday: 9am -5pm EST, Friday: 9am – 3pm EST.
  • Location: 675 Third Avenue, 19th New York, NY 10017 (Note: Dependent on the pandemic, this position may be hybrid.)
  • Salary: $10,000
  • Start Date: May 16, 2022 – August 31st, 2022

THE CANDIDATE: This position is an excellent opportunity for a college student to gain valuable work experience in administration. The ideal candidate should be a 2nd or 3rd year college student preferably a business/IT major with working understanding of databases (intern will be trained on the HFLS scholarship database) and experience in excel.
