Jane Eisner is an accomplished journalist, educator, non-profit leader, and public speaker. She most recently was director of academic affairs at the Graduate School of Journalism at Columbia University. For more than a decade, she was the Forward’s editor-in-chief, the first woman to hold the position at America’s foremost national Jewish news organization. Prior to her work at the Forward, Jane held executive editorial and news positions at The Philadelphia Inquirer for 25 years. She also served as vice president of the National Constitution Center, and has taught at Wesleyan University and the University of Pennsylvania. Her first book, “Taking Back the Vote: Getting American Youth Involved in Our Democracy”, was published by Beacon Press in 2004. Her next book, “Carole King: She Made the Earth Move” will be published by Yale University Press in 2025. Jane is a regular contributor to the Washington Post’s Book World; her work has also appeared in The New York Times, The Atlantic, and other major news outlets. Jane lives in New York City with her husband, and enjoys walking her dog in Riverside Park. She is especially passionate about HFLS’ work helping New Yorkers afford school tuition and other educational needs.
