“I am a photo-based artist and fine arts photographer. In addition to making my own art, I had worked as an adjunct instructor at different colleges for many years. These jobs are almost always part time and for a certain number of semesters.
Last year, for the first time in years, I was applying for teaching jobs and couldn’t get anything. I started to run out of options financially. I had some small photography jobs and had borrowed some money from friends and family, but I was struggling to pay my rent and bills.
I applied for and received a general needs loan from the Hebrew Free Loan Society. The loan helped me when in I was in a seriously tight spot. There was a very real chance that I could have lost my apartment.
Without HFLS, I don’t know what I would have done. HFLS had a huge impact on helping me take those first steps to financial stability.”
