“The Hebrew Free Loan Society provided the funds we needed to start new lives in the United States following our escape from Ukraine. With the HFLS Housing Loan, we obtained an apartment in Staten Island. Now we can give our 3 children a safe, stable home once again.”
– Olesia, Ukrainian New Arrival Housing Loan Borrower
Every year, HFLS sets aside capital for emerging needs. In FY23, we dedicated these funds to meeting the housing needs of Ukrainian war refugees newly arrived to NYC. Since the onset of the war in Ukraine in February 2022, over 30,000 new arrivals have sought refuge in New York. Many face months of unemployment due to pending government work authorization, making it difficult to cover essential expenses like food and rent.
To address this pressing issue, HFLS launched a housing loan program for Ukrainian new arrivals, which has already assisted more than 100 families rebuilding their lives and starting anew in the NYC area. Watch the video to learn more!
