Systems & Data Officer

THE ORGANIZATION

The Hebrew Free Loan Society (HFLS) advances economic stability and opportunity for lower income New Yorkers within and beyond the Jewish community by making safe, affordable interest-free loans.

HFLS is a nonsectarian lender, making loans based on financial need to borrowers of all backgrounds since 1892. HFLS maintains a repayment rate above 99%, the result of a unique lending model that relies on guarantors to prevent default. As our loans are repaid, the capital is lent out again and again, helping more people and multiplying impact over time.

This year HFLS will lend approximately $30 million to nearly 2,000 households, and we strive to help more people every year.

THE OPPORTUNITY

HFLS lending has grown enormously in recent years, with an increase of $5.5M (23%) last year alone. As the quantity of applications received, loans provided, and data collected increases, HFLS must devote increasing attention to the tracking, management, and analysis of this information.

The Systems & Data Officer will ensure HFLS has access to accurate, comprehensive lending data and is able to identify trends, concerns, and opportunities that will inform organizational decision-making, strategic planning, and outcomes for the agency and our clients. Reporting to the Systems & Data Manager and working closely with staff across the organization, the Officer will play a crucial role in ensuring HFLS is equipped to meet the needs of our borrowers and assist more lower-income New Yorkers in the years ahead.

Data Collection and Management

  • Create, edit, and test loan applications, forms, and surveys in Form Assembly and map them to Sales force (SF).
  • Update SF fields, accounts, parameters, mapping, and funds and manually upload/enter bulk payments and other data as required.
  • Conduct ongoing SF data cleanup, specifically duplication management and merging.

Data Reporting and Analysis

  • Support staff reporting requests and provide staff training on the creation, editing, and exporting of reports as required.
  • Organize and maintain SF Reports to ensure accessibility and ease of use.
  • Review, analyze, and prepare summaries or highlights of weekly, monthly, and annual lending and repayments reports, with an eye toward a) identifying inconsistencies, errors, and trends and b) improving HFLS data collection, operations, and ability to understand our impact.
  • Regularly review borrower feedback survey results to identify items for follow-up and actionable feedback for staff.
  • Consult with Finance and Lending staff on monthly lending reconciliation between the departments.

THE CANDIDATE

This is an excellent opportunity for an analytical, inquisitive individual who has hands-on experience with SF and a talent for distilling large quantities of information into digestible results and actionable insights. They take a proactive, problem-solving approach to their work and are eager to learn, collaborate, and take on new challenges.
